Paintings All paintings age and change their appearance in the course of time. This process affects the whole picture including its support, gesso, paint, and layers of varnish all of which can get damaged.
Damage can be caused by the passage of time, water, fire, smoke, neglectful handling, and poor previous repairs. Examples of damage are darkened, discolored, and yellowed surfaces, age cracks, warping, holes, tears, blisters, stains, paint losses, and mold as well as weakened and disintegrating supports.
Most of these problems can be corrected, stabilized, and reversed.
Our services include consolidation and stabilization, cleaning, hole and tear mending, structural reinforcement, lining, filling-in losses, color matched inpainting, and varnishing.
We work on old European masters and American paintings on canvas, wood, and metal supports as well as on contemporary artists pieces.
